Soundscape from underwater
Artist: Eva Ursprung
Residency dates: August 1- 9
—
Eva Ursprung sinks herself under the Danube waters around where Eleonore docks herself. Eva, strapped with waterproof speakers and microphones under safety belts, intimates the water-inhabitants whose soundings of emotion/motion state make up an under-water soundscape. During the residency, Eva keeps a daily routine to dive under water, she observes, records and transmits. She plays different sounds, experimenting with different settings, seeking reactions from the water creatures on site. Many fish are known to communicate via acoustic signals, especially for courtship or danger. But will fish in the Danube be able to interpret the courtship calls of Amazonas piranhas? While the artist does not aim to conclude any observation, nevertheless she keeps the sound play and records the interplay, catching the local fish, the splash, as they jump out for midges.
